AKCP Sensor Water Detection Chain – Sophisticated water leak monitoring for critical infrastructures

AKCP Sensor Rope Water Sensor

The AKCP Sensor Rope Water Sensor, also known as Rope Water Sensor, is one of the most advanced solutions when it comes to detecting water in sensitive IT and industrial environments. This SNMP-enabled system was specifically developed to reliably protect critical infrastructures such as data centers, utilities, and industrial production facilities against water damage. With cutting-edge leakage detection, the water leakage sensor prevents unexpected outages caused by leaking water and protects companies from serious financial and operational consequences.

Water is one of the greatest threats to server rooms. Whether caused by burst pipes, leaks in air conditioning units, or dripping heating systems – even small amounts of liquid can damage sensitive electronics or shut down systems completely. Since not every company has redundant infrastructures, such damages can lead to high costs, downtime, and even legal consequences. The Rope Water Sensor from AKCP is designed exactly for these scenarios and provides early warnings before major damage occurs.

The Rope Water Sensor is available in several variants, suitable for different applications. Whether for smaller rooms with modest leakage monitoring requirements or large data centers requiring precise leak localization – AKCP provides solutions that can be flexibly integrated into almost any environment. The combination of robust design, precise measurement technology, and versatile connectivity makes this system the first choice for administrators and security managers who rely on absolute reliability.

The technology of the AKCP Sensor Rope Water Sensor is based on the highest measurement accuracy. Even distilled or deionized water, which is common in many industrial processes, can be easily detected. With continuous monitoring at second intervals, even the smallest leaks or condensation can be immediately detected. These features make the liquid detector especially valuable for data centers, where condensate from air conditioning units or leaks from water-cooled servers can pose a serious risk.

Three Variants of the Rope Water Sensor

The AKCP Rope Water Sensor is available in three models that differ in functionality and expandability. The choice of the right sensor depends on the spatial conditions as well as the desired level of security.

V2RWSCxx – The Compact Standard Version

The V2RWSCxx is the simplest version without expandability. It is ideally suited for enclosed and smaller rooms where point monitoring is sufficient. Thanks to its compact design, integration of this version is particularly straightforward. However, it is important to note that the standard version cannot be extended. It is the ideal solution when fixed, clearly defined monitoring areas need to be covered, such as small technical rooms or individual server racks.

RWSCxx – The Expandable Solution

With the RWSCxx version, companies gain significantly more flexibility. At the end of the sensor cable is a female connector to which additional cable segments can be connected. This allows the monitoring system to be expanded and adapted to changing room conditions. This version is especially suitable for larger buildings, data centers, or areas that grow over time. The flood protection system also ensures that extension cables can be seamlessly integrated. It should be noted that extensions are only available on request.

LWSCxx – The Precise Localization Version

The LWSCxx, officially called Locate Water Sensor Cable, is the most technically advanced version. In addition to detecting water leaks, it also enables exact localization of the affected point along the cable. On a length of up to 30 meters, operators can determine the exact position where the leak occurred. Communication is carried out via standard CAT5/6 cables with up to 60 meters range. This precise localization gives administrators a crucial advantage, as the leak does not have to be searched for but can be fixed immediately.

Technical Features and Measurement Method

The measurement principle of the AKCP Sensor Rope Water Sensor is based on electrical conductivity. This method makes it possible to detect even very small amounts of liquid, whether it is tap water, distilled water, or condensate. In certain business areas – for example, in data centers with complex cooling systems – even minimal amounts can cause major damage. Continuous measurement several times per second ensures early alerts.

Particularly noteworthy is the IP66 certification. It guarantees that the waterproof connectors of the Rope Water Sensor work reliably even under harsh conditions. At the same time, the robust construction ensures reliable operation at temperatures from -20°C to +60°C. Even high tensile forces of up to 22.7 kilograms or loads caused by pressure on the cable do not impair the functionality of the sensor.

Integration into Monitoring Systems

The AKCP Rope Water Sensor can be seamlessly integrated into existing IT monitoring environments. It communicates via RJ-45 interfaces with AKCP sensorProbe and securityProbe systems. Thanks to Auto-Sense technology, the sensor is automatically detected. In addition, each unit provides a unique OID, allowing SNMP queries to be standardized. This makes the water leak detector suitable for companies already using professional monitoring systems such as Nagios, OpenNMS, or IBM Tivoli.

The alarm options are versatile and range from classic email alerts to SMS, web interfaces, or SNMP traps. This allows any type of infrastructure to be adapted – regardless of whether a small administrator group or a global IT team must be informed. In addition, a disconnect alarm is integrated: if the cable is cut or tampered with, a notification is sent immediately.

Application Areas

The Rope Water Sensor is used in many critical environments. The most important areas include:

  • Data centers with water-cooled servers and air conditioning units
  • Industrial production facilities with water-carrying pipes
  • Power supply facilities operating cooling circuits
  • Warehouses with sensitive goods
  • Infrastructures with compliance requirements for environmental protection

Installation and Handling

Installation is flexible and includes screw mounting, installation under raised floors, and perimeter monitoring along room boundaries. For reliable results, some specifications must be followed: no conductive surfaces as a base, correct bend radius of at least 50 mm, and compliance with maximum tensile forces. Due to its low power consumption of only 125 mWatt, the Rope Water Sensor operates very efficiently.

Durability and Maintenance

The Rope Water Sensor from AKCP stands out for its low-maintenance concept. Thanks to its robust cable construction and durable connectors, years of use are guaranteed. In expandable versions, defective sections can also be replaced without having to replace the entire structure. This saves costs and increases operational security. Regular SNMP queries automatically check whether the system is functioning correctly.

With the AKCP Sensor Rope Water Sensor, companies have a professional, advanced, and cost-efficient water protection solution at their disposal. Its versatility in terms of variants, network integration, and alerting makes it the best choice for critical infrastructures. Whether as a compact standard version, as an expandable solution, or with precise leak localization – the Rope Water Sensor systems provide reliable protection against unforeseen water damage. For data centers, industrial environments, and sensitive technical rooms, they are an indispensable foundation for ensuring operational continuity.

Summary

How does the standard version differ from the localization version?

The standard version only detects the presence of water, while the localization version determines the exact location of the leak along the cable. This saves administrators time in leak detection.

Can distilled water be detected?

Yes, the AKCP Rope Water Sensor uses a conductivity measurement method that reliably detects even distilled or deionized water.

How is the power supply ensured?

The power supply is provided by the connected AKCP sensorProbe or securityProbe units. No additional power source is required.
