HW-group PWR – M-Bus gateway for energy and water conservation monitoring

HW-group PWR – M-Bus Gateway

Water leaks, along with power failures, are among the greatest risks in server rooms, data centers, and industrial plants. The HW-group PWR is a powerful M-Bus gateway designed not only for precise energy monitoring but also for integrating water detectors and consumption meters. Combined with suitable M-Bus sensors for water or liquid ingress, it becomes a central component for protection against water leakage and flooding.

Water Protection via M-Bus Monitoring

The HWg-PWR can be connected to M-Bus-enabled water meters or leakage detectors. This enables immediate detection of concealed pipe leaks or sudden water ingress. In combination with the SensDesk portal, thresholds can be monitored and instant alerts sent via e-mail, SNMP trap, or SMS in case of an alarm. This contributes significantly to early detection and prevention of water damage.

Three Versions for Every Environment

  • HWg-PWR 3: supports up to 3 M-Bus meters, ideal for small server rooms or offices
  • HWg-PWR 12: supports up to 12 meters, suitable for larger buildings, technical rooms, or mid-size data centers
  • HWg-PWR 25: supports up to 25 meters, designed for large data centers, industrial plants, and building complexes with high water risk management requirements

Technical Advantages

  • M-Bus interface (EN 13757): vendor-independent metering integration (electricity, water, gas, heat)
  • Real-time monitoring: up to 100 data points per meter
  • Data logger: stores up to 170,000 readings internally, exportable via HWg-PDMS (Excel)
  • Digital inputs: 8x DI for dry contacts, e.g., external water leakage detectors
  • Alerts: e-mail, SNMP, SMS alarms via HWg-SMS-GW3, device failure detection
  • Integration: open for SCADA systems via Modbus/TCP, SNMP, XML
  • Power supply: 110/230 V AC, direct powering of M-Bus meters

Typical Applications

  • Server rooms & data centers: monitoring of energy and water consumption plus detection of leaks under raised floors
  • Industrial facilities: monitoring production areas for water leaks and power failures
  • Building management: prevention of water damage and leakage alarms in technical rooms
  • Rental properties & public buildings: remote monitoring of water pipes and consumption meters

Integration & Portals

The SensDesk platform provides visualization of alarms, PDF reporting, and analysis. SensDesk On-Premise is available for larger projects. With SNMP v3 and HTTPS, the HWg-PWR gateway integrates securely into existing IT infrastructures and communicates with more than 50 SNMP and SCADA applications.

Alarm & Control Functions

  • Water leak detection: integration of M-Bus water meters and detectors
  • Alerts: instant notifications for leakage via e-mail, SNMP, SMS/voice through gateway
  • Control: integration with box-to-box technology for external relay activation
  • Reporting: historical data logging, PDF reports for audits and HACCP compliance

Summary

Can the HWg-PWR detect water leaks?

Yes, in combination with M-Bus water meters or external water leak detectors, the system can detect even the smallest amounts of liquid and immediately trigger an alarm.

What differentiates the HWg-PWR 3, 12, and 25 versions?

The versions differ in the number of connectable meters: 3, 12, or 25. All models equally support water leakage protection and IoT monitoring.

How are alarms triggered?

Alarms are sent via e-mail, SNMP trap, or SMS (through an SMS gateway). SensDesk can additionally provide device failure detection and reporting.

HW-group PWR: M-Bus Gateway

HW-group PWR: M-Bus Gateway
The HW-group PWR from HW group is an advanced M-Bus gateway designed for precise energy monitoring and remote consumption meter monitoring.

It is a robust gateway supporting manufacturer-independent consumption meters for electricity, water, gas, or heat. The device features an Ethernet port (RJ45, 100 Mbit/s) and a password-protected web interface for graphical data visualization (e.g., charts) and data export to Excel-compatible formats.
