AKCP Water Sensor – Reliable Leak Detection
The AKCP Water Sensor, also known as WSxx Spot Water Sensor, is a specially designed precision device for the early detection of water and water-containing liquids in sensitive areas. It was created to protect companies from potential damage caused even by the smallest amounts of water. Typical areas of use include data centers, server rooms, laboratories, production halls, or logistics centers, where even minimal moisture can cause serious consequences such as short circuits, corrosion, or failures of the entire infrastructure.
Water leaks are one of the underestimated dangers in modern IT environments. Causes may include heavy rainfall, burst pipes, defective air-conditioning systems, leaking sprinkler systems, or leaking UPS batteries. Particularly critical are situations in which distilled or deionized water escapes, as many conventional sensors do not detect it. The AKCP Spot Water Sensor uses capacitive microprocessor technology, which enables it to reliably detect even this type of water and trigger an alarm before costly damage occurs.
With rising energy costs, more and more companies are relying on water-cooled server cabinets to efficiently dissipate the heat generated. While these modern cooling systems are effective, they carry the risk of leaks from defective valves, damaged water pipes, or leaking heat exchangers. An undetected leak can cause entire server racks to fail. The AKCP Water Sensor detects such leaks in real time and ensures that countermeasures can be taken before serious damage occurs.
Not only leaks but also condensation are a danger. In high-humidity environments, moisture often accumulates unnoticed in hard-to-reach areas—such as under raised floors or behind racks—and can cause short circuits. The WSxx Spot Water Sensor from AKCP also detects the smallest amounts of moisture and accurately reports them to the monitoring system.
Advanced sensor technology
The outstanding strength of the AKCP Water Sensor lies in its modern microprocessor-based sensing technology. By means of capacitive measurement, it can reliably distinguish between dry and wet environments. This ensures precise monitoring around the clock. Unlike many conventional sensors, this one also detects distilled water, which makes it particularly well suited for high-end IT environments.
Thanks to this technology, continuous, error-free, and low-maintenance monitoring is made possible. The sensor operates extremely energy-efficiently and requires no external power supply, making it a cost-effective solution. Its robust design ensures long-term reliable operation even in demanding environments.
Technical details and simple installation
The sensor has a compact housing (55 x 39 x 27 mm) and connects via RJ-45 to an AKCP sensorProbe or securityProbe. The connection is made using standard Cat-5/6 network cable up to 150 meters in length, allowing flexible installation. Thanks to the AutoSense function, the sensor is automatically detected, configured, and monitored. Even an accidental disconnection of the cable is registered and reported.
Power is supplied through the connected monitoring unit. With a typical power consumption of just 65 mW, the sensor is highly energy efficient and ideal for continuous operation. An integrated LED provides visual feedback: when lit steadily the status is normal—when water is detected, it starts flashing, enabling quick on-site checks.
Seamless integration with IT and building management systems
All AKCP monitoring systems support the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP). This allows easy integration into existing network management systems such as Nagios, HP OpenView, WhatsUp Gold, IBM Tivoli, or Microsoft SCOM. Open-source solutions such as OpenNMS, MRTG, or Cacti are also fully supported. Appropriate MIB files are included to make integration as simple as possible.
Through the user-friendly web interface of the AKCP sensorProbe or securityProbe, alarm notifications can be individually configured. Companies can choose to be notified via email, SMS, SNMP trap, or audible and visual signals. Additional options include automated server shutdown or even telephone alerts via GSM modem. Relay contacts can be used to initiate countermeasures directly, such as activating pumps or automatically locking doors.
Flexible installation and high scalability
The WSxx Spot Water Sensor is available in various cable lengths (4.5 m, 18 m, 30 m), making it suitable for a wide range of requirements. Its compact design and screw-mounting option make it ideal for installations in confined spaces such as raised floors or behind racks. This way, even hard-to-reach areas can be monitored.
It is important that the sensor is not installed directly on conductive surfaces. If this cannot be avoided, AKCP recommends using a special insulation coating (part number WSIC) to prevent false alarms and damage to the device.
Maximum protection for your IT environment
With the AKCP Water Sensor, companies gain a powerful and future-proof solution for protecting their IT and building infrastructure. It combines precise detection, high compatibility with common management systems, and flexible alerting options. At a time when outages cause not only financial losses but also reputational damage, investing in a reliable water sensor is an essential part of any professional security strategy.
With its combination of capacitive sensor technology, easy integration, energy-efficient operation, and visual status indication, the AKCP Spot Water Sensor offers an all-around protection package specifically designed to meet the requirements of modern data centers and critical infrastructures.
