NB-WLD: Reliable protection against water leakage and water ingress
HW-group NB-WLD
Water damage is one of the greatest threats to IT and building infrastructures. Especially in data centers, server rooms, or complex technical facilities, an undetected water intrusion can cause major outages and costly repairs. The NB-WLD from HW-group is a modern IoT monitoring device specifically developed for precise water leakage monitoring. By combining NB-IoT data transmission, robust construction, and a powerful sensor cable, the system provides reliable protection even in remote or hard-to-reach locations.
The NB-WLD detects conductive liquids such as water, condensate, or ethylene glycol along the entire length of a connected WLD sensor cable (Type A). Just a few drops are enough to trigger the leakage early warning system. This allows damage to be detected early before it leads to serious disruptions. A practical advantage: the sensor cable is reusable since it can be cleaned and dried and then used again – a cost-saving and sustainable solution.
Communication is handled via Narrowband IoT (NB-IoT), an energy-efficient mobile technology that ensures stable transmission even inside buildings or in remote facilities. The NB-WLD operates with an internal long-life battery (up to three years of runtime), making it suitable for use where neither LAN nor Wi-Fi is available. For continuous operation, a 5V power supply can be connected as an alternative.
As part of the HW-group ecosystem, the NB-WLD integrates seamlessly into SensDesk portals or the free HWg-Cloud. This enables centralized monitoring of all measured data, configuration of alarm notifications, and generation of historical reports. In case of a leak, the system notifies immediately via e-mail, push message, or – when combined with an SMS gateway – via SMS or phone call.
Key Features of the NB-WLD
- NB-IoT connectivity: secure and efficient data transmission even in remote areas.
- Long battery life: internal Lithium MnO2 battery lasting up to 3 years.
- Sensor cable Type A: liquid detection along up to 60 m cable length.
- Flexible use: ideal for IT infrastructure, building technology, archives, and production rooms.
- Reusable cable: clean and reuse after a water incident.
- Compact design: IP40 metal housing for desk, wall, or DIN rail mounting.
- Stable environmental resistance: operating between –10 °C and +70 °C.
Advantages in Comparison
- Reliable IoT leakage monitoring even in areas without LAN or Wi-Fi.
- Compact form with integrated data logger for up to 250,000 values.
- Cost-saving thanks to reusable sensor cables.
- Integration with SensDesk for professional remote monitoring.
Application Areas of the HW-group NB-WLD
- Data centers and server rooms: early detection of water under raised floors or air conditioning units.
- Building technology: monitoring in basements, storage rooms, or technical facilities.
- Pipe monitoring: sensor cables installed along pipelines carrying water for leak detection.
- Air conditioning systems: detection of condensate or cooling liquid leaks.
- Museums and archives: protection of sensitive documents and exhibits against moisture ingress.
Integration into the Monitoring Ecosystem
Usage requires connection to the HWg-Cloud or a SensDesk technology portal. The free HWg-Cloud can integrate up to 20 devices. The paid SensDesk portal provides additional features such as SMS/voice calls, PDF reports, or API interfaces for integration into systems like SCADA. This makes it easy to integrate the NB-WLD into existing monitoring infrastructures.

Summary
How long does the NB-WLD battery last?
The internal Lithium-MnO2 battery lasts up to three years under normal usage, depending on the frequency of alarms and environmental conditions.
Can the sensor cable be reused?
Yes, the Type A sensor cable is washable and reusable. After cleaning and drying, it can be used again.
How are alarms sent?
Alarms are sent via e-mail or push notification. With an SMS gateway (e.g., HWg-SMS-GW3), additional SMS or voice call alerts are possible.
